Consider Internet of Behaviors in your digital transformation

In 2020 Gartner predicted that the Internet of Behaviors (IoB) will be in the spotlight more and more and may become the next frontier that will start to expand in 2023. This seems to be the next logical step after technologies like IoT and 5G will take permanent place in our lives. IoB will become an important part of most enterprises whose core business is consumer-facing (in very broad ranges from retail offering the best products according to your habits to services (your smartphone offering you best workout for the day, considering your previous workouts, progress and real-time metrics from your smartwatch)).

Examples of IoB can already be found in real-life applications – some insurance companies have started monitoring drivers patterns and basing on the outputs are adjusting the insurance rates. Prediction is that by 2023 40% of the global population will be tracked digitally in order to influence our behavior. While this may seem a good place to take out your tinfoil hat, it’s also important not to forget that this technology brings lots of convenience to the user – if every second day you use a mobility scooter to get around the city, the scooter company can place one on those right on your doorstep. And if you decide to switch to every third day – you wouldn’t have to call anyone or change any subscriptions, based on your behavior the algorithm will tell the logistics system to schedule routes differently.

But what all of this has to do with digital transformation?

IoB mainly consists of 3 things:

  • Technology (IoT devices, sensors, usability tracking)
  • Data analytics (BI, Big Data)
  • Behavioral science

While finding scientists is not often considered to be the main task of CTOs, it is one of the most important tasks for any CEO or CIO = to take care of technological aspects as well as have solutions at your fingertips to ensure data storage, processing and analysis at any scale.

When considering IoB as a long-term paradigm you need to consider that the required technology might not be there yet, however you can’t afford to spend 3 more years on different digital transformations, just to enable work with IoT devices. As well as scaling – future needs for Big Data may not be even close to the needs you have right now. Your enterprise solution needs to be set up in a way that you can scale up and down at any time.

As a solution you may consider top-of-the market IoT platform that can:

  • Work as a cloud solution
  • Support unlimited IoT device connections
  • Support Edge computing [link]
  • Support simple connectivity to data warehouses, lakes and business intelligence (BI) systems
  • Scale according to your needs in connections, internal controls, storage and analytics.
